One Plus X Is Official – Specs And Release Date Revealed
After months of speculation and rumors, the OnePlus X has been officially announced. It is arriving in Europe on November 5 and in the U.S. on November 19, according to a report in the BGR. The new smartphone is priced at $249 with decent specifications, which were likewise unveiled with the announcement.
OnePlus X is the third smartphone that was manufactured by the Chinese company with the same name, OnePlus. The company is better known for what it dubbed as its "flagship killers," which were smartphones that had high-end specs like the latest flagships, but had an affordable price tag. The newest device does not have the same high-end specs but the report noted that it does fill a gap that OnePlus 2 has – it has NFC and a microSD slot.
The device's specs include a 5-inch Full HD AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Under the hood, the phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset paired with 3 GB of RAM. Internal storage is 16 GB but is expandable via microSD for up to 128 GB.
The phone's cameras are comparable to recent flagships. Its main rear-facing camera is a 13 megapixel shooter that is capable of Full HD video recording, while its secondary front camera is 8 megapixels. Battery capacity is decent as well at 2,525 mAh. It runs OnePlus' own version of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, called OxygenOS.
Design-wise, it sports a combination of glass and metal for its body, which the report likened to the design of the Samsung Galaxy S6. There are two variants of the device's back cover – one called Onyx which is a black glass cover, while the other one is the limited Ceramic edition.
For $249 for the Onyx variant and $369 for the Ceramic variant, it is considered a reasonably priced smartphone with specs that are comparable to or even better than some of the mid-range Android phones available.
