Each compact and easy-to-assemble OnePlus Cardboard headset is crafted from durable cardboard material based on Google's Cardboard 2.0. Designed accommodate devices up to six inches in size, it is 20 percent smaller than Google's version, is equipped with higher quality Velcro seals, and has been coated with a dirt and oil repelling film.

During the 7 p.m. PT (10 p.m. ET) launch, smartphone users and OnePlus fans will find themselves "standing" alongside the OnePlus team in an auditorium as the new OnePlus 2 is unveiled in front of an audience.

Based on OnePlus' marketing campaign aiming to remove barriers between their phone and the audience, the VR launch will allow viewers to look around and check the new flagship device up close.

Aside from being the first to debut via a virtual reality launch, the OnePlus 2 will also be the first smartphone to offer reversible USB Type C connectivity that delivers higher power output and faster data speeds compared to other USB adapters.

It will be carrying an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, and is said to have 4GB of RAM under the hood. With an expected 5.5-inch QHD screen display, it is touted to be sporting a 16MP rear camera and a 5MP front snapper, all powered by a 3300mAh battery housed in a metal build.

OnePlus 2 is reportedly going to set smartphone buyers back by around $400 (£265).
