Online Torrents News: Torrentz Ceases Operations, KAT Gone Too; What's Going to Happen?

Torrents Search Engine Torrentz Quietly Ceases Operations

After the exit of KickAssTorrents (KAT), meta-search engine Torrentz has made its quiet farewell as well.

It is not exactly known why Torrentz has ceased its operations. Its official website could no longer search for torrents which means the links for them are gone too.

In its homepage, they wrote a final note for their users: "Torrentz was a free, fast and powerful meta-search engine combining results from dozens of search engines," it said. "Torrentz will always love you. Farewell."
The website has also wiped away any information of itself.

Torrentz Working More than Ten Years, Ceases Operations
According to Torrent Freak, Torrentz started in 2003 and next year would have been their 14th year on the internet. Torrentz is a meta-search website that does not exactly post torrents of whatever files users want to search for, but links to them instead. It allowed copyright holders to take down links via the DMCA takedown and obeyed requests as well.

No one knows why Torrentz was taken down and whether the website has breached legal issues remains unclear as well, Gizmodo reports. The Torrentz takedown follows the downfall of the KickAssTorrents website that was also shut down a few weeks back.

Torrents Mirrors for Torrentz same with KAT and Piratebay?
So what happens next when Torrentz goes down for good? Everything put on the internet does not die. This was most clear when the supposed shutting down of Piratebay and KAT had mirrors popping up all over the internet. However, the operations ceasing on the original website heralds the dawn of stricter internet policies, linking and file-sharing.

Dan Deeth of Sandvine commented that a similar torrent website will surface on the internet eventually, Wired reports. He adds that the traffic doesn't get affected by torrent websites like Torrentz getting shut down because people generally find a way to download their stuff.

VPNs, Solution to Torrenting and Pirating Safely?
A thread on Reddit regarding the shutting down of Torrentz has continuously advised others to use a virtual private network (VPN) to pirate or torrent safely. Using this method will apparently offer a more secure connection to risky public sites. VPNs make a user stay anonymous online which is becoming a need lately as arrests for cyber crimes such as illegal downloading are increasing.
