Entire New Season of 'Orange Is the New Black' to Take Place Over Just Three Days
Netflix has already announced the release date for the highly anticipated fifth season of "Orange Is the New Black." And after the cliffhanger ending of season 4, star Laverne Cox revealed that she is just as excited as any other fan of the show.
Cox, who plays inmate Sophia Burset, spoke to PEOPLE about the upcoming season of the Netflix comedy drama series. "It is really juicy and really amazing," she teased. "If you're a fan, and I'm a fan of the show even as a person who is on it, when I got the script I felt like I was tearing into it."
She also revealed that the entire fifth season's events take place over the course of only three days--something star Danielle Brooks previously told E! News. While on the red carpet at the SAG Awards, the media outlet caught up with Brooks, who plays inmate Taystee Jefferson on the show.
"Season 5 is done over the course of three days: you will watch 13 episodes, and find out what happens in the course of three days," Brooks previewed. "So, it will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready."
Three days is definitely a short time. Fans are already wondering how 13 episodes worth of content will all be squeezed into three days. But the short time period only indicates that there are a lot of things that will be happening, and there is not a minute to waste.
It can be recalled that the end of season 4 saw the death of Poussey Washington, played by Samira Wiley. Her death ignited an uproar among the inmates, which concluded with Dascha Polanco's Daya in possession of a gun. It is expected that the upcoming season will see a prison riot taking place in the aftermath.
In February, Netflix released a teaser clip that announced the premiere date of "Orange Is the New Black." Short flashes of the characters on the show are seen, ending with Daya holding the gun.
"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 will be released on June 9 on Netflix.
