'Orange Is the New Black' Season 5: Maritza and Flaca's Friendship to Deepen
"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 will not be premiering until June, but fans are already excited about what the new cycle has in store for their favorite characters, especially with a riot looming on the horizon.
The end of season 4 saw Daya (Dascha Polanco) holding a gun to Thomas Humphrey (Michael Torpey), a correction officer. This was the result of Poussey's (Samira Wiley) death, which led to the inmates revolting against the correction officers at the facility.
It has been said that Daya will likely set off the gun, which will inevitably lead to a greater riot taking place at the prison. The hostility between the inmates and correction officers has long been brewing, and it is possible that season 5 will see it all come to a head. It remains to be seen, though, how many casualties there will be.

On a more positive note, Maritza (Diana Guerrero) and Flaca's (Jackie Cruz) friendship is also expected to grow and deepen in the new season. Maritza has been a good influence on Flaca, and the upcoming installment will see that continuing.
Season 5 will consist of 13 episodes, but the whole story will be taking place over only three days. "Season 5 is done over the course of three days. You will watch 13 episodes, and find out what happens in the course of three days," Danielle Brooks, who plays Taystee Johnson, shared with E! News. "So, it will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready."
In other news, Sony Channel U.K. has bought the rights to "Orange Is the New Black." The first season is scheduled to debut in the United Kingdom on Wednesday, April 19.
"It is widely recognized as a must-see series that we're pleased to make part of our offering on Sony Channel," Sony Pictures Television boss Kate Marsh said (via The Hollywood Reporter).
All episodes of "Orange Is the New Black" season 5 will be simultaneously released on June 9 on Netflix.
