'Orphan Black' Season 4 will continue to have mysteries but will be reset.
"Orphan Black" Season 3 ended with one of the main characters getting shot in a car park. Delphine is shot at and the audience is kept in suspense – has she died or is she wounded badly? Then there was the dinner party. It almost seems as if some part of Orphan Black is over. There is a finality to the events.
In an interview with Entertainmnet Weekly, John Fawcett, Executive Producer of "Orphan Black", was asked about Delphine's death. He replied, "Well, you know, I know this will be upsetting to many fans but the story in our minds has always been a tragic love story. Listen, I didn't want to say one way or the other. For us, I believe this is a horrible thing that had to happen," he said.
Some other things like a new clone Krystal coming in and Sarah Duncan's disappearance are superb plot points to take off for Season 4. In a press conference, BBC America president Sarah Barnett talked about resetting the Orphan Black story line and going in a new direction. She said,"One of the many defining things of the show is that rhythm in the storytelling of Russian nesting dolls, so you think it's painted itself into a corner, and then something else pops out which takes it in this crazy new different direction."
Before taking off in an entirely new direction, Season 4 will need to tie up some loose ends, like finding out what happened to the rest of the Leda clones. After the supposed attack on Helena, were all Leda clones destroyed? "Orphan Black" is set in an international arena so maybe there are other clones too who are waking up to the fact that they are different and are asking questions – who are they?
A new clone, Veera is making an entry into the spinoff comic book, "Orphan Black: Hellinski." Veera could also enter Season 4.
Till now the story of "Orphan Black" was about the clones finding out who they actually are, trying to get justice and revenge. It was about solving their own mystery and getting deeper into conspiracies. Maybe the time has come for a 'reset' of the storyline.
"Orphan Black" Season 4 will return on BBC America in 2016.
