Oscar Pistorius to Be Sentenced for Culpable Homicide; New Zealand Café Apologizes for Joke About Steenkamp's Death

Oscar Pistorius will be facing his sentencing on Oct. 13 after he was found guilty of culpable homicide on Sept. 12. The sentence, which will be carried out by Judge Thokozile Masipa, will either be a fine and a timed suspension, or jail time for up to 15 years.

The Olympian, also dubbed "The Blade Runner," fatally shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp during the early hours of Valentine's Day last year. Pistorius said that he thought that his house was being burglarized, and that caused him to fire shots at his bathroom door, without knowing that Steenkamp was on the other side of the door.

Meanwhile, a café in New Zealand is currently under fire for making light of Steenkamp's murder. The staff of Scorch-O-Rama in Scorching Bay, Wellington on the New Zealand coast were received numerous complaints for the tasteless joke which was printed on the café's receipts, according to Mirror.co.

"Oscar Pistorius was super keen to get a new bathroom door, but his girlfriend was dead against it," the joke read.

Long-time customers and locals of New Zealand and Australia took to social media to declare their outrage at the joke.

"Your 'joke' about the killing of a woman in an incident of domestic violence just ended our family tradition of starting and ending our rides around the peninsula at Scorching Bay," Anita Easton posted on the café's Facebook.

It was reported that café owner Keith Morrison said that he removed the joke from all the receipts as soon as the complaints started pouring in.

"Sometimes our brains are the last thing to engage, when they should be the first," said Morrison. "We apologize again for any hurt or distress we caused people — it was absolutely never our intention."
