Many have commented that the Academy's snub of Ben Affleck for the "Best Director" award this year has been unfair.
"I was so disappointed Ben Affleck [was] not nominated for Best Director for Argo!" movie critic Mara Reinstein announced to Us Weekly.
But Afleck or not, the show must go on and there will no lack of talent during the 2013 awards event. His film "Argo" is still in the running for Best Film, meaning the likely winner for the top prize of the night will be a toss up between "Argo," "Silver Linings" and "Lincoln."
Up for the category of "Best Director" include:
Michael Haneke, Amour
Ang Lee, Life of Pi
David O. Russell, Silver Linings Playbook
Steven Spielberg, Lincoln
Benh Zeitlin, Beasts of the Southern Wild
Other top categories to watch will be the "Best Actor" and "Best Actress." Who are the most likely to win this category? Many critics are leading towards Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, although Jessica Chastain could provide formidable competition, and others have thought Daniel Day-Lewis' portrayal of President Lincoln could see him win yet another Best Actor award.
Best Actor
Bradley Cooper in "Silver Linings Playbook"
Daniel Day-Lewis in "Lincoln"
Hugh Jackman in "Les Misérables"
Joaquin Phoenix in "The Master"
Denzel Washington in "Flight"
Best Actress
Jessica Chastain in "Zero Dark Thirty"
Jennifer Lawrence in "Silver Linings Playbook"
Emmanuelle Riva in "Amour"
Quvenzhané Wallis in "Beasts of the Southern Wild"
Naomi Watts in "The Impossible"
The biggest award of the night will be for "Best Picture." Considering the Ben Affleck was sadly snubbed for his direction of "Argo," may are predicting that the film itself may take home the big award. Daniel Day Lewis however, may know a thing or two about elevating a movie into an award winning film following his "There Will Be Blood" performance. That puts "Lincoln" is a close second place as favorite for the top honor.
