'Oscars 2016' Predictions: George Miller, Leonardo DiCaprio Expected Winners at Academy Awards 2016

With the "Oscars 2016" happening in less than two weeks from now, movie critics and plain moviegoers alike find themselves in a guessing game as to who will bring home Academy statuettes on the night of Feb. 28. Among the roster of nominees, though, many experts place their bets on two brilliant artists who, if fate allows, will bring home their first-ever Oscar trophy for their respective categories: George Miller and Leonardo DiCaprio.

While it is true that Miller is set to vie for the Best Director award against other distinguished directors, such as Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu for "The Revenant," Tom McCarthy for "Spotlight," Adam McKay for "The Big Short" and Lenny Abrahamson for "Room," he is believed to be the one to likely take home the coveted Oscar's statuette.

According to reports, there are actually a few reasons to believe why Miller will bag his first-ever Academy trophy this year. For instance, his movie "Mad Max: Fury Road" was not just critically acclaimed but also a box-office success too. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 97 percent rating while it earned an 89 percent approval from Metacritics.

Design&Trend also noted that movies featuring heavy visuals and graphics are in the good graces of the Academy, citing two other Oscar Best movies in the past, "Life of Pi" in 2013 and "Gravity" in 2014, to validate its claim.

Another reason why Design&Trend believes that Miller will win as Best Director on the night of "Oscars 2016" is that he is already 70 years old and may not get a chance to helm movies in the nearest future. The website alleges that the Academy favors veteran professionals, hence, the odds are on the favor of Miller bagging the statuette for his first-ever Oscar nominated film.

Meanwhile, for the Best Actor category, Forbes is betting on Leonardo DiCaprio to finally win his first-ever Oscar Best Actor statuette. According to Forbes, DiCaprio's win in last month's Screen Actor Guilds (SAG) Awards reinforces his chances of finally bringing home the bacon, so to speak, thanks to his "The Revenant" role.

However, although a good number of Oscar winners actually won at SAG first before continuing their victory at the Academy, LA Times noted that winning a SAG is not a guarantee for an Oscar win.
