'Outlander' News: Three Things You Need to Know About Season 2
While the premiere episode of "Outlander" season two brought the audience back to Scotland, the next episode, the second for this new season, is "Not in Scotland Anymore." This would be the best time for fans to be acquainted with what may be expected in this second season run in a capsule. To keep it short and simple, here are three things viewers and avid fans of "Outlander" should expect in the next helping of this time-travel series.
The second episode will bring fans to Paris where Jamie and Claire are now living, fitting in seamlessly into the Parisian way of life at court, with their new, luxurious French way of life in fancy clothes and a home filled with well-trained servants. The couple has made friends all around, Jamie with Murtagh Fraser, the former's godfather and all-time companion. Claire has also been around, making fast friends in the character of Master Raymond, the local apothecary; Louise, the wealthy socialite chaperoning Mary, a young English woman.
First up: There is going to be a lot of sex. It would be better to up and forward about this matter before anything else and somehow get it out of the way. Claire and Jaime's relationship will be much hampered by what they both went through in the first season. But despite Jaime's rape in the hands of Black Jack, there will still be much sex left to go around, with discussions regarding "the male appendage," brothels, sex toys, infidelity, and whatever else in connection with sex. There will be pierced nipples and "honey pots" being talked of.
Secondly, Black Jack is very much present, or rather, his ghost is. His memory lingers in Jamie's unconscious as well as waking moments. Jamie's hand may be slowly healing and its scars fading, but the memory of what he suffered in Randall's hands is very much with him. He cannot look at Claire without bringing his memory back. Jamie is seen having difficulty sleeping and having powerful visions during earlier episodes, and these are slowly eating away at his relationship with Claire.
Number three is perhaps the most important as this is the core of the couple's reason for coming to Paris. The put a plan in place to change history. The second episode is the beginning of the couple's move to infiltrate French high society. And events fall in right away with their plans, as Jamie meets Prince Charles---and even the constipated King Louis XV---and proceeds to get in with the Prince's gang of supporters. Jamie soon makes his move to thwart the royal person's plans before the latter sets sail for Scotland.
The couple are so intent on their prize that Jamie's early encounter with a woman who seems all too familiar with him even fails to spark jealousy in Claire. Annalise de Marillac, with whom he previously hooked up during his previous residence in France, will be seen early in the season, getting familiar with Jaime.
Caitriona Balfe tells TVLine, "I think people sometimes like to pit women against each other. Initially, there may [be] some surprise or interest from Claire of this beautiful young woman who seems to know a lot about Jamie and seems to have a feeling that she has an innate understanding of him."
But according to Balfe, who plays Claire, this is not something to be concerned about. In fact, the two women will end up being close.
"Outlander" Season 2 returns Sundays 9 p.m. on Starz.
