Season 2 ended emotionally with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) saying goodbye to each other before Culloden's battle in 1746. Though the couple tried to stop the Jacobite rebellion and tried to change history, they were not successful. Jamie Fraser had to save his wife and unborn child. He made his wife go back to her own time, since it was the only way he could save her from the unfortunate fate.

The scene was made emotional yet romantic as the couple danced their way to the stone as Jamie led Claire to where she is going to time travel back to her own present time.

This farewell scene was a work of art by executive producer/writer, Toni Graphia and co-executive producer/writer, Matt Roberts.

What Happens Next?

It is not surprising that season 3 will be based on the 3rd novel by Diana Gabaldon titled Voyager. Thus giving viewers a lot of questions on what really will happen in the 3rd season. With the Culloden war, Jaime managed to escape, but there were 4 others who died. It is a mystery to who were those who died and how did Jaime escape.

If Jaime managed to escape, did he go back to his childhood place or is he on the run for the last 20 years? Did Jaime ever marry after Claire left?

All these are hanging questions that may be answered in season 3. The greatest question now is when season 3's release will be. It may come soon. The important thing is Starz already renewed the contract for season's 3 and 4.

Outlander is a series adapted from the novel written by Diana Gabaldon.
