'Outlander' Season 2 News, Spoilers: Stars Dish on Claire and Jamie's Marital Troubles, the Return of Black Jack
Now that Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) are in Paris, they seem worlds away from the horrors Jamie endured at the hands of Black Jack Randall (Tobias Menzies) at Wentworth Prison.
Unfortunately, Claire has learned from his brother, Alexander Randall (Laurence Dobiesz), that Black Jack is still alive. Faced with the daunting task of letting Jamie know that his torturer did not die in the cattle stampede in season 1, Claire decides to keep the knowledge to herself in the meantime.
In a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter, "Outlander" stars Balfe and Heughan spoke about the marital troubles their characters are going through in the show's recently debuted second season and about how Jamie will eventually conquer the demons that have been hounding him since his traumatizing experience with Black Jack.

"There's a great fear that this is going to be something that breaks Jamie," Balfe said. According to the actress, since arriving in Paris, Claire has felt like she and Jamie are finally getting to where they can put the horrible experience behind them. But finding out that Black Jack lives and that his brother has arrived in Paris makes her so scared that the news will somehow drive Jamie over the edge.
As viewers have seen in the show's second season, Jamie's torment at the hands of Black Jack has caused problems in his relationship with Claire. He is traumatized from the experience and is unable to be intimate with his wife.
But in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Heughan revealed that the couple will be intimate this season and that at least one of the sex scenes in season 2 will be quite "rare."
"This season Caitriona and I wanted to deal with it sensitively because there couldn't be great intimacy between them in the beginning," the actor said. As Heughan told WSJ, he and Balfe spoke to the writers and actually changed some original drafts for season 2 because they wanted to see the two characters finding each other again.
"So there is a scene where they do find each other, and it's actually quite rare, you get to see a pregnant woman having sex with her husband, and it's really sexy, I think," he said.
Heughan also spoke about how Jamie will eventually overcome his trauma, telling THR, "Without spoiling it, the only way he's cured is with Black Jack himself."
As Heughan explained, finding out that Black Jack is still alive will somehow give Jamie the power to regain control of his life. "That finally rids him of the nightmare that is Black Jack Randall," he said.
