Outlander Season 3: The Difficult Journey of Jamie and Claire to Falling in Love all Over Again after 20 years
There will be a 20-year time jump from last season.
Outlander has been a big success for Starz. It had been announced earlier on that it has been renewed not only for one season but two! The time-travel themed romance drama which switches between the late 18th and mid 20th centuries, has become one of the most watched TV shows today.
What has been clear from the successful two seasons is that neither time nor space can keep Jamie and Claire from falling in love. Whatever their circumstances are, they will find each other to continue their love story.

Outlander Season 3 is based on Diana Gabaldon's third book in the Oulander book series, Voyager. There will be a 20 year time jump from the events of the Battle of Culloden of Season 2. Claire and Jamie have been separated in those 20 years but a reunion is imminent in the next season.
The two decades will not stop the star-crossed lovers from falling in love with each other again. However, within the 20 years they have been apart, each maintained an ideal image of the other that they held up on a pedestal. Before they can even start to fall in love with the other person right in front of them, each must destroy that image first.
The Difficult Journey of Falling In Love Again
Caitriona Balfe, who plays Claire in the series, in a previous interview talked about the difficulty journey of the lovers. She said that their situation is complex because each is basically in love with the ghost of the other but that's impossible because, "That's not the people they are when they see each other again," she says. Balfe also told fans that they should look forward to Jamie and Claire falling in love with each other all over again in the show's return.
The Gay Lord John Grey
Meanwhile, the production is said to be looking to cast an actor to play the adult Lord John Grey. They probably agree with the thinking that it is high time for him to accept the truth about himself and come out of the closet.
In Gabaldon's book series, Grey is gay and secretly in love with Jamie. Outlander spoilers hint that Jamie will bestow him a kiss in the next season. Perhaps, it is a sign of gratitude after Lord Grey decides to protect him by marrying Isobel. Grey is also the stepfather of Jamie's illegitimate son, William. It remains to be seen though if said scene will make the cut in Outlander Season 3.
There is still no official announcement from Starz when Outlander Season 3 will premiere. There are unconfirmed reports however that it will be in early 2017.
