Ouya Controller and Storage Upgraded in New Version of the Android Console
A new version of the Ouya Android gaming console is available that comes with a revamped controller and double the storage.
Customers can now purchase the system with 16GB of build-in storage and a "refined version" of the controller that features a new Bluetooth configuration. The controller is said to come with "better buttons" and "faster response" overall.
This new Ouya model also comes with boosted wi-fi connectivity, making for a faster experience with the system overall. It currently retails for $129.99 and can be purchased through Amazon in Canada and the U.S. It is also available on Ouya's official site. The company will continue to sell the 8GB model.
The device was tested out by sites such as The Verge and Wired when it first launched back in 2012 and the general consensus was that the console had potential but there are still some kinks that had to be worked out.
"The Ouya still has a ways to go before I'd call it a full-fledged home console competitor," wrote The Verge. "Even if I'm not convinced of its utility, though, I'm reassured that it's trying to offer something new and different, not just a rehashed set of Android games or another hardware gateway to the same content."
Wired discussed the potential of the console and the site's Chris Kohler expressed his excitement for game development, which is open to all.
"Ouya's radical re-envisioning of television games doesn't stop with just recreating the iPhone on the TV. There's no difference," Uhrman said, "between a developer kit and a retail console-- all you need to make games is the Ouya and a PC."
No doubt, it has probably come a long way since that time and this new model will certainly help to answer some of those complaints.
