'Overlord' Season 2 Release Date News: January 2018 Premiere Confirmed?
The second season of "Overlord" will be back in January 2018. A leaked image taken from its manga source, which was posted on social media, confirmed the show's official return.
Machina Tokyo, an anime store, reportedly posted an image of the soon-to-be-released volume 12 of the "Overlord" novel from Kugane Maruyama on its Twitter account. Found in the book's jacket band were texts that confirmed the second season of the anime adaption.
It stated the premiere date of "Overlord" season 2 will be in January 2018 but no exact day was indicated. It also stated that Madhouse studio will be behind the second season animated series.
Details as to the number of episodes for "Overlord" season 2 have not been cleared. Speculations are that the series will have around 24 or 25 episodes since there are plenty of materials from the novels since the release of the first season.
"Overlord" season 1 premiered on July 2015 with only 13 episodes. It originally aired in Japan, but Funimation won distribution rights to the show for its releases outside of the Asian country. Funimation also dubbed the series in English for its diverse audience.
"Overlord" is a new world virtual reality gaming platform. Set in 2138, it follows Momonga who is an avid gamer of "Yggdrasil," which randomly shuts down from time to time.
Momonga refused to log out of the game one day and became trapped in the virtual world, where he's determined to become its leader or overlord.
With no family and friends in this virtual world, he transformed into a powerful wizard with the image of a skeleton. Meanwhile, the non-player characters (NPCs) also changed as Momonga changed. They began to have feelings and emotions.
Funimation came out with two video compilations of the first season in Blu-ray and DVD format earlier this year. The sets are entitled "Overlord: Fushisha no O" and "Overlord: Shikkoku no Senshi."
