'Overwatch' Teases Junkertown Map
"Overwatch" players are excited over the newest map to be launched by Blizzard Entertainment for its team-based multiplayer online first-person shooter video.
More details about the Junkertown map have been teased courtesy of the new trailer released by the developer. According to Video Gamer, the behind-the-scenes footage let the gamers explore the post-apocalyptic scrapyard and discover how it came to be. Apparently, Junkertown is situated on top of the ruins of the Australian Outback where farmers lost their lives fighting against the robotic Omnics. The crisis led to the outback's destruction, leaving only the Escort map, now a place that many dark souls call home.
Hermits, scavengers, brutes and killers, who are collectively called the Junkers, have turned the huge Omnium into a gladiator arena. As the fighters battle for their lives, a mysterious person is glimpsed watching from the shadows. She calls herself the Queen of Junkertown, a ruthless character who is allegedly an ex-gladiator. There are speculations that she may be playable as a future hero, but this will remain a mystery until Blizzard releases the new update on Sept. 20.
Meanwhile, game director Jeff Kaplan recently spoke (via Polygon) about the toxicity happening in the multiplayer courtesy of some players. According to him, the "Overwatch" team really wants to focus on creating new content for the game, but it cannot proceed with the development due to the many complaints of fighting abuse.
"We've been put in this weird position where we're spending a tremendous amount of time and resources punishing people and trying to make people behave better," Kaplan said in a video post. "I wish we could take the time we put into putting reporting on console and have put them towards a match history system or a replay system instead. It was the exact same people who had to work on both who got re-routed to work on the other."
"Overwatch" is currently playable on the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
