'Pacific Rim: Uprising' Release Date, News: Film Reveals Glimpses of Jaegers and Pilots

The battle against gigantic threats that aim to wipe out life on Earth continues to rage on as "Pacific Rim: Uprising" prepares work on production. To show that the movie is alive and well, certain shots of both the mechanical giants and its pilots have been shown.

In the latest issue of License! Global, photos of three Jaegers were featured. These huge robots are so enormous that they have to be controlled by two pilots, thus the stakes are indeed high. What's striking though is the middle Jaeger's resemblance to the fallen Gypsy Danger.

According to Bloody Disgusting, that was actually intentional. An anonymous source tells them that the blue behemoth is made as a tribute to its predecessor and will be carrying the name of Gypsy Avenger. It doesn't say though if it will perform better or who the pilot is going to be, but the looks of it surely show it is one badass robot.

Speaking of pilots, actor John Boyega has tweeted a photo of him with the caption "I am Pentecost." It can be recalled that Boyega plays the role of Jake Pentecost, Stacker Pentecost's (Idris Elba) son, and will be one of the pilots in the sequel.

If anything, the film would need as much publicity as it can. As a matter of fact, it can be recalled that there are rumors that the pressure to perform well in the sequel is so high that it trickles down to its stars, causing Boyega to be caught in the middle and will have to choose between "Star Wars Episode VIII" and "Pacific Rim: Uprising." The photo does mean he is starring in the latter, although his fate for the former is still uncertain.

Fans will have to wait and see what happens to both films, but for now it appears he is a go for the steampunk film. "Pacific Rim: Uprising" arrives in theaters on Feb. 23, 2018.
