Pacquiao vs. Bradley 3: Juan Manuel Marquez Gives Advice to Timothy Bradley
Four-division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez offered some unsolicited advice to WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley.
Bradley is slated to take on eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao for the third time on Saturday, April 9th, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It will also be the 66th and final fight of Pacquiao, who will be putting his sole focus on being a politician in his home country of the Philippines.
"Pacman" is currently running for Senator at the 2016 Philippine Elections, which takes place on May 9th. Both men hold one win apiece over each other: Bradley won the first fight last June 2012, in a controversial split decision contest.
Pacquiao was then able to bounce back last April 2014, where he won the rematch via unanimous decision. As they approach the third fight, "El Dinamita" offered some of his thoughts about the fight.
In his appearance on ESPN Deportes (as reported by Boxingscene), Marquez says he sees no changes on the part of Bradley, despite the addition of renowned veteran trainer Teddy Atlas in his corner. That being said, the 42-year old Mexican professional prizefighter and boxing legend also pointed out the specific points of the game that "Desert Storm" needs to work on, to achieve victory.
"I do not think there will be many changes (with Bradley), or minor adjustments with new trainer Teddy Atlas," Marquez said. "But he will need to adjust in terms of speed, the speed of his hands and feet must be moving in the ring and can not allow himself to be a fixed target for Pacquiao, a fighter with speed and punches very hard."
Marquez reiterated that Bradley would need to use his movement and not allow Pacquiao to make use of his speed advantage.
Marquez has had the opportunity to face Pacquiao, in a total of four fights. The first fight in 2004 ended in a draw, while the second fight four years later had Pacquiao winning by a narrow split decision.
The third fight in 2011 ended with Pacquiao bagging another controversial win via majority decision, while the fourth fight in 2012 ended via an exclamation point of a knockout by Marquez in the sixth round.
