Padma Lakshmi 'Overwhelmed' by Being Single Mother

Padma Lakshmi may have a successful career as a host on Bravo TV, but even with her fame and fortune, Lakshmi has admitted that she is often "overwhelmed" by being a single mother. Her daughter, Krishna Thea, has very little to do with her father, so Lakshmi takes most of the responsibility for the child.

"I have struggled with it. It's not easy, but I have a great career and I have my daughter," Lakshmi told More magazine. "So what I don't have is not as important to me as what I do have."

Lakshmi famously dated billionaire Teddy Forstmann before his death, but former partner Adam Dell was found to be Krishna's biological father. He has since sued for custody, visitation rights, and to have his daughter's last name changed to his. Lakshmi and Dell have battled over Krishna, but Lakshmi has primary custody of the child.

She also has a high-profile career as one of the faces of Bravo TV. Her career and family life "does get overwhelming sometimes," she added. But she finds time to relax and unwind after a hard day's work.

"The other thing that is a good stress reliever is going to the gym, but I haven't made it there in, like, two months. I'm like a foie gras goose fatted up!" she joked.

Her series, "Top Chef," is one of the highest rated reality competitions on TV and shows no signs of slowing down. Lakshmi has been the host since 2006 and was nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Host of a Reality or Reality-Competition. She did not win, but the show "Top Chef" managed to take home the Emmy for Outstanding Reality-Competition in 2010.

One thing that Lakshmi will not have to be overwhelmed by is the financial responsibility for her daughter. Not only does Dell contribute to her upbringing, Forstmann established a trust for Krishna before his death in 2011.
