PayPal Attacks Apple Pay: Releases New Ad Slamming Apple Pay's Privacy Measures

With the release of Apple Pay along with the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and Apple Watch, many Apple device users have registered to use the new NFC operated payment system announced on Sept. 9.

In response, Paypal, the eBay owned electronic payment platform took out a full page advertisement in several U.S. publications on Monday, which includes USA Today, the San Francisco Chronicle, and the New York Times.

"We the people want our money safer than our selfies. Paypal, protecting the people economy," the ad reads.

Though Apple was not mentioned directly, Paypal is hinting at the company's recent problems with iCloud, which a lot of celebrities are blaming for their nude photo leaks.

Since the nude photo leaks, Apple has gone on to say that the leak was caused by weak user names and passwords rather than an iCloud security breach. More than 100 female celebrities were targeted by the hacking incident, including Jennifer Lawrence, Kaley Cuoco, Kim Kardashian and Vanessa Hudgens.

When Apple Pay was announced, Paypal's senior director of communications Rob Skinner took the opportunity to take shots at the Cupertino company.

"Nobody can dispute Apple's strong track record, but payments is a difficult area. It's much more difficult to do payments than to keep a live stream working!" he said.

However, the Apple Pay website reiterated that doing transactions with them is perfectly safe as the company does not store any details at all in its system.

"With Apple, your payments are private. Apple doesn't store the details of your transactions so they can't be tied back to you," the website.

According to The Guardian, PayPal might have been frustrated at being left off Apple Pay's list of recommended payment partners, though PayPal allows customers to make transactions with Apple iTunes Store.
