'Peaky Blinders' Season 4 Launches on Netflix; Season 5 Return Date Confirmed

"Peaky Blinders" season 4 finally launched on Netflix on Thursday, Dec. 21, with six episodes. The release for U.S. subscribers came just as the show ended its run on U.K. television. BBC already confirmed it will be back for season 5.

The crime drama introduced a new big bad in Adrien Brody. "Peaky Blinders" season 4 brought back the Shelby family to Birmingham to face off with new adversary Luca Changretta.

Changretta's war with the Shelbys resulted in devastating consequences immediately in the first episode. The season finale also offered shocking twists that saw the loss of one fan-favourite character.

Following the finale, BBC confirmed that "Peaky Blinders" will return for season 5 in 2019. It will also carry six episodes as with previous seasons.

Creator Steven Knight said he's still haven't started writing the new episodes. He promised he will get to crack the ideas in his head on paper soon.

"We will start shooting in the autumn," Knight told Express. "It will be the normal turn around, it would be [airing in] spring of 2019."

Knight also discussed the possibility that "Peaky Blinders" season 5 will be the series finale. The showrunner previously said he would like to cap off the show with a plot leading up to the start of World War II.

"We're all thinking that five will be the last one, but it's not set in stone," the executive producer said. "I don't want to be a hostage to that. I mean, I always hope we will get more."

Scheduling conflicts also became a problem in production since "Peaky Blinders" reached success in both U.K. and U.S. The actors suddenly found themselves swamped with other projects that set back the show's filming, hence season 5 might be the last time the cast will work together.

"Peaky Blinders" stars Cillian Murphy (Tommy Shelby), Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby), Helen McCrory (Aunt Polly), Sophia Rundle (Ada Shelby), Finn Cole (Michael Gray), Harry Kirton (Finn Shelby) and Joe Cole (John Shelby). New episodes are streaming on Netflix, while seasons 1 to 4 are also running on the platform.
