'Peaky Blinders' Season 4 News: Cillian Murphy Curious About a Film Version

"Peaky Blinders" received a fourth and fifth season renewal in 2016 from BBC and while it's too early to tell if the show will go beyond season 5, a film version could also follow. Star Cillian Murphy hinted he's not entirely opposed to this idea.

Speaking with Esquire, Murphy said that "Peaky Blinders" creator Steven Knight has been looking into a film version of the critically-acclaimed series. He can't say much, however, since there is no movie plan to discuss for now.

"You'd have to be careful, but I'd be curious to do it," Murphy said.

Last year, Murphy also expressed the same thing when the subject of a "Peaky Blinders" film version came up. He said he's theoretically behind it but since no discussion has been initiated, then he's not sure if a big screen version could happen.

Executive producer Caryn Mandabach revealed in 2016 that Hollywood star Julia Roberts was keen on doing a "Peaky Blinders" film. Mandabach, however, said she only heard of this rumor and has not confirmed nor discussed anything with the "Pretty Woman" star.

Mandabach also said that the priority is to complete the series for BBC first before shifting to the big screen. She's grateful that the show is gaining an audience outside of the U.K. since "Peaky Blinders" also runs on Netflix for U.S. and Canada viewers.

Meanwhile, one name will not appear in the credits when "Peaky Blinders" begins its fourth season. The show will remove The Weinstein Company (TWC) as a result of the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal.

The people behind TWC are aware of this decision from "Peaky Blinders" producers and it's an expected move. Other shows under TWC won't also be putting the Weinstein name in the credits. Among these are "Project Runway" on Bravo, "Scream" on MTV, "Six" on the History Channel and the upcoming series "The Romanoffs" on Amazon.

BBC has not yet announced a premiere date for "Peaky Blinders" season 4. A special screening of the latest season's first episode will take place in Birmingham on Oct. 30 at the Cineworld.
