Pebble Time Steel vs. Moto 360 - Which Smartwatch Is Better?

The battle of the wearables is constantly heating up, with new smartwatches being released almost as frequently as smartphones.

Pebble recently released a new model of their wearable called Pebble Time Steel. The company behind Pebble first released an earlier model simply called Pebble Time in early July and this was after a successful Kickstarter campaign to help fund the development of the smartwatch.

With the new Pebble Time Steel, some reports have taken to compare the upgraded model to the Moto 360, an Android Wear smartwatch. A blog post in Mobiquity takes a look at the two smartwatches and compares them in terms of specifications and functionality.

The Pebble Time Steel is considered to be an upgrade of the cheaper Pebble Time watch. The main difference is in the material that the watch is now made of. Pebble Time Steel is said to be dressier version, with a chassis made of steel and a premium leather watch band. On the other hand, the Moto 360 is considered by most reviews as one of the "best-looking" and stylish watches in the market, with a steel chassis and premium leather band.

In terms of battery life, the Pebble Time Steel boasts of a 10 day battery life, mainly because of its color e-paper display. Moto 360 on the other hand is said to just last for one day of use.

Both watches run on different platforms. The Pebble Time Steel is compatible to both Android and iOS smartphones which is a clear advantage. The Moto 360 will only work when paired with an Android phone.

When it comes to functionality, the Pebble Time Steel especially with the recent update is now able to "track activity and other things while applications run in the background." One need not have an app active on screen in order for that app to keep tracking daily activity. With this, Pebble is now able to compete with one of Android Wear's features. Health goals tracking is especially notable since it is the only smartwatch that can last longer than a day for it to truly be useful. The Moto 360, which also has health tracking, is said not to be able to compete with the Pebble Time because its battery life only lasts a day.

In terms of the price, the Pebble Time Steel is a premium model and thus comes with a premium price of $249.99. The Moto 360 has dropped its price from $249.99 to only $149.99, and rumor has it that a Moto 360 2 is on the way.

In the end, the choice of smartwatch to get ultimately depends on what a user needs. The Pebble Time Steel may not be as sleek-looking as the Moto 360, but its battery life is a big plus for people who do not want to worry about plugging in all the time.
