'Penny Dreadful' Season 3 News, Update: New Trailer Teases "Darkness Will Soon Be Upon Us"

Showtime just has released a haunting new promo trailer of its hit gothic horror drama TV series "Penny Dreadful," for its highly anticipated third season which premieres next month.

The video, which can be seen below, is packed to the brim with mystical natives, devouring werewolves, troubled minds, terrifying experiments, and so much more details.

As fans could remember, Season 2 ended with Sir Malcolm, Vanessa Ives, Ethan, and the rest of the company, scattering in different directions. The latest clip, however, teases that this group of supernatural misfits will once again band together to save Vanessa from whatever dire situation she'll be in the new installment.

On top with all these tribulations, she will also have to deal with some issues concerning an "end of the world" which only she can stop.

New stories and new plots mean new players. After making an outstanding guest appearance on Season 2, Patti LuPone will return as Dr. Seward, an American psychiatrist who will be handling Vanessa's treatment. She previously starred as a cut wife. She will be joined by "Hell On Wheels" star, Wes Studi, who will play as Kaetenay, a mysterious Native American seer who shares a deep connection with Ethan. Another newcomer joining the fray is Shazad Latif who will star as Dr. Henry Jekyll.

As if those won't be enough, the new chapter will also see the arrival of other new characters such as Dr. Alexander Sweet, played by Christian Camargo, who is a zoologist and a friend of Vanessa; Jessica Barden's Justine, a young disciple to Lily and Dorian Gray; and Perdita Weeks, as Catriona, a scholar who has a vast knowledge of the supernatural world.

"Penny Dreadful" features the acts of Eva Green as Vanessa Ives, Josh Hartnett as Ethan Chandler, Timothy Dalton as Sir Malcolm, Billie Piper as Lily, and Reeve Carney as Dorian.

Season 3 kicks off in the small screen Sunday, May 1 at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
