'Penny Dreadful' season 3 spoilers: Mr. Jekyll to be introduced; Patti Lupone returns
The series "Penny Dreadful" ended in a surprising way when the villainous Evelyn (Helen McCory) was killed by werewolf Ethan (Josh Hartnett). Vanessa (Eva Green) asked Ethan to run away with her, only to be rejected as she woke up alone. Ethan surrendered to Rusk (Douglas Hodge) and found himself getting extradited back to America.
The upcoming season might introduce some new cast members to the show. The famous and classic literary characters of Doctor Jekyll and Mister Hyde will appear.
Showrunner John Logan talked about a possible addition to the cast. "I can tell you this and this is such a tease, and I am sorry for it - but after two years I am finally adding another famous literary character. It's been fun going into another writer's brain and bringing one of those great characters back into our world," he said.
The forthcoming season will see the return of actress Patti Lupone as a series regular. However, her role in this season will be different. She will be playing the role of Doctor Seward, an American therapist who helps Vanessa using an unconventional method.
Actress Eva Green was seen on the set wearing a long black skirt, beige shirt, and a black fitted jacket. The outfit was Victorian Goth inspired. She was seen shooting in Dublin for the show.
The new season may even give fans a possible romance between Ethan and Vanessa. Josh Logan talked about that possibility. "They're fascinating characters for me, and they're both in a very dark and desolate place and have been for a long time. The idea of two characters in need coming together and trying to find some grace or some lightness in the various curses that surround them was obviously very interesting. Plus Eva and Josh are just very good together. They play very well together; they spark very well together," he said.
Another possible pairing next season is that of Dorian Grey (Reeve Carney) and Hecate (Sarah Greene).
The series will see a very rapid change in pace as the season will be markedly different from the first two. Logan, who is both creator and executive producer, mentioned the differences in the new season. "We can get out of the alleys and cobblestone bars of Victorian London and see a bit more of the world essentially there's a pull bringing these characters together and it's supernatural, partly romantic, partly shared destiny," he said.
The show will return some time early next year.
