'Persona 5' Release Date and Rumors: Katsura Hashino Unsure If Team Can Release Game This Year?

Five years is a long time for fans to wait, but it seems the wait will be even longer as rumor has it that Atlus still doesn't have a polished "Persona 5" to release this year.

While the developer did not announce a specific release date for the much-awaited game, a recent statement from the game's designer, Katsura Hashino, gave fans the idea that the team may be dealing with a lot of issues that will possibly further delay the game's launch.

According to Gematsu, Hashino said in the latest Weekly Famitsu that he "thinks" they will release the game this year. "We'll safely release Persona 5 in 2016...I think," he said. With the seemingly doubtful comment, fans are starting to doubt if Atlus can deliver the game that is expected to be unique and on top of the rest.

Some fans believe that Hashino may just be "messing around" and that he is just trying to put everything under wraps to avoid spoilers. One fan, on the other hand, seems to be tired of the long wait as he commented, "Please be excited...for delay." Another fan, who apparently got angered by Hashino's remarks, said, "Don't you dare Atlus!"

It is too early to say that Atlus has altogether decided to push the release for another year, but fears for another year of waiting are already hot on forums and social media networks.

The game stars Phantom, a homeless school guy, who is joined by Ryuuji Sakamoto, Anzu Takamaki, and a cat called Morgana. The team of four live by their own standards and are doing things that they believe are right. Their principles will cause them to be on the run as they go against what they think is plain injustice.

"Persona 5" is exclusive for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 and is scheduled to release sometime this year — at least that's what the game designer thinks.
