'Persona 5' Release Date, News: Title Takes Inspiration from Arsène Lupin
The "Persona" franchise can be considered as one of the most in-depth of titles when it comes to storytelling and plot, and so it is always interesting to know how the game is made. Fortunately, game creator Katsura Hashino lets audiences have a glimpse on how the title was conceptualized.
In an episode of Toco Toco, Hashino shares that the game is loosely based on concepts of both literature and reality, and the mix of both makes it a relatable title. By striking the perfect combination where it makes sense, the players get to identify themselves with the story and the characters.
"For 'Persona 5,' I wanted to create a story with a burglar in the style of Arsène Lupin," Hashino explains, which could be where the concept of stealing hearts come from. "Rather than a small city, I decided that the story would take place in a big town, at the center of cultural and political life, which is why I decided to choose Tokyo as the center point of my story."

Hashino also confessed that within the Sangenjaya area in Tokyo, he draws inspiration from manga or documentation that he gets from Tsutaya, an establishment in Carrot Tower. This allows him to pick up on themes that the modern society has in mind, further making it easier to communicate the plot while taking players on a unique journey.
With less than a month before the title launches in consoles outside Japan, ATLUS has released a trailer that shows the characters and their abilities. The protagonist uses handguns, Ann Takamaki sports whips, Ryuji Sakamoto dishes pain using a spiked bat, and Yusuke Kitagawa is a master of using rifles.
Other playable characters show they are also beings not to be messed around with. Futaba Sakura is the tech genius of the group, Makoto Nijima shows how she conjures her Persona, while the mascot of the team Morgana can easily bring out its Persona Zorro at will.
"Persona 5" arrives worldwide on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on April 4, 2017.
