Philadelphia Eagles NFL Rumors 2017: Eagles Are Reportedly Interested in Alshon Jeffery

Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery played under the franchise tag last season after he failed to sign a long-term contract with the team, but now they have to go back to the negotiation table. Jeffery wants a more secure contract, but the Bears are reluctant to give him what he wants. If they fail to finalize a long-term deal the team can once again apply the franchise tag on Jeffery, but they will have to pay him $17 million. Will they keep him?

Well, if the Bears opt to let him leave, he may not be on the free agency market for long because reports say a team is already targeting him. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora said the Philadelphia Eagles are interested in Jeffery.

"Several league sources anticipate the Eagles being in on Alshon Jeffery (Bears) and Philadelphia was aggressive in exploring trade options in-season on other receivers as well, like Torrey Smith (San Francisco), and they need to add more than one pass catcher this offseason," La Canfora said.

Well, that makes sense. After all, Nelson Agholor has been a major disappointment so far. Dorial Green-Beckham also played poorly last season, so the Eagles definitely need some help in the wide receiver department if DeSean Jackson leaves.

According to ESPN, Jeffery is looking for "a deal comparable to Demaryius Thomas and Dez Bryant, both of whom are averaging $14 million per season with north of $30 million guaranteed."

Do the Eagles even have the cap space to sign him? If they want Jeffery, they may have to get a little creative in freeing up cap space.

Meanwhile, Mike Jones of the Washington Post said the Eagles are also in the mix for Washington Redskins wide receiver Pierre Garcon.

If the price for Jeffery is too steep for the team, they can always look at other options in the free agency market like Garcon or Torrey Smith.
