Philadelphia Eagles NFL Trade, Roster Rumors: Eagles Sign Jake Elliott, Place Caleb Sturgis on Injured Reserve
Well, it didn't take long for the Philadelphia Eagles to find a new kicker after Caleb Sturgis injured his hip in their 30–17 win over the Washington Redskins last Sunday.
The Eagles have announced that they have signed Cincinnati Bengals practice squad kicker Jake Elliott.
Elliott was drafted by the Bengals in the fifth round of this year's draft after a standout career at the University of Memphis. He made 81 of 104 field goal attempts as a member of the Tigers, and he was a perfect 202-for-202 on extra points.

He actually struggled during training camp and the Bengals decided to go with Randy Bullock as their primary kicker. But now Elliott will get the chance to start for the Eagles as he fills in for Sturgis.
Meanwhile, Sturgis is expected to miss a few weeks of action and he has been placed on the injured reserve list to make room for Elliott. However, there's a chance he might be brought back to the active roster later this season.
"If he is healthy, he would be eligible to practice after six weeks which is when the Eagles prepare to face San Francisco on October 29. He could then rejoin the active roster during the bye week for the final seven games of the regular season," David George said in his piece on the Eagles' official website.
"The NFL passed a rule this offseason allowing teams the option to activate two players from the Injured Reserve list after eight weeks where it was previously only one," he added.
The Eagles may place cornerback Ronald Darby on the injured reserve list since he's expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks after he suffered a dislocated ankle during their game against the Redskins.
Philadelphia will take on the Kansas City Chiefs next on Sunday, Sept. 18.
