Philadelphia Eagles NFL Trade Rumors: Eagles Give Allen Barbre Permission to Seek Trade
Veteran offensive lineman Allen Barbre's days in Philadelphia may be coming to an end.
Bleacher Report's Jason Cole has reported that the Eagles have given Barbre permission to seek a trade. Well, this was to be expected. Barbre started for the team last season and he actually played really well as a left guard and right tackle. However, they are still rebuilding and at age 32 (33 in June), Barbre isn't part of their plans for the future.
The Eagles can free up cap space by parting with the offensive guard and that should give them more wiggle room to maneuver during free agency. According to PhillyVoice, the team will save $2.1 million in cap space next season if Barbre is traded or released. That's not much, but it's a start.
"That's not an insignificant amount for a club that's currently only $8.6 million under the cap heading into the new league year," All22.com's Andrew Kulp noted in his report.
"It's more a sign of things to come for the Eagles in terms of freeing up cap room. In the coming days, Barbre, Kendricks, Daniel and defensive end Connor Barwin could be among the cap casualties as the organization readies a plan to shore up glaring holes at wide receiver and cornerback," he continued.
Looks like the Eagles are ready to promote Isaac Seumalo to full-time starter. Seumalo had a solid season as a rookie and the emergence of the young linebacker has made Barbre expendable.
Aside from Barbre, reports say starting center Jason Kelce could be on the move as well. However, observers believe his place with the team is secure if the Eagles trade Barbre instead. Many have speculated that Seumalo will get the starting center job if Kelce gets traded, but since Barbre is reportedly on the way out, they think the Eagles will keep Kelce at center.
