Philadelphia Eagles NFL Trade Rumors: Eagles Open to Trading Jordan Matthews and Chase Daniel
Jordan Matthews is without a doubt the most productive wide receiver on the Philadelphia Eagles roster for the past couple of seasons. But that's not really saying much because they have one of the worst wide receiving corps in the National Football League (NFL). The Eagles are going to be busy pursuing players who can fill those spots in free agency and the draft, but they may be willing to part ways with their best receiver for the right price.
Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports has reported that the Eagles are open to moving Matthews. They are not exactly shopping him around the league, but they are willing to listen to offers. Furthermore, Robinson revealed that they are willing to trade Chase Daniel as well. Last week, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport also said Daniel was drawing interest on the trade market from teams looking for a backup quarterback.
Football fans know that the Eagles desperately need an upgrade at the wide receiver position, so why trade Matthews?
Well, he's in the final year of his contract and many believe that he will not receive a contract extension after the season. If he's not part of the Eagles' long-term plans they may as well trade him and get something in return before he becomes a free agent.
Furthermore, Matthews' stats look good on paper, but Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation has pointed out that his numbers are inflated due to the type of offense the Eagles run. He said Matthews has a number of flaws, but he thinks the Eagles should give him another look before they decide to part ways with him.
"Drops have been a big issue for Matthews in the NFL just like they were for him in college. His inability to play the outside is also a negative," Gowton said in his report. "With all that said, the Eagles shouldn't be looking to dump Matthews for the sake of it. He has value to the team. Ideally, the Eagles should wait to see how Matthews performs in his contract year before deciding whether to extend him or move on," he continued.
Matthews' future with the Eagles may be up in the air, but he will probably start for them next season if they don't get a good offer from interested teams.
