Philadelphia Eagles NFL Trade Rumors: Eagles Release Chase Daniel

To clear more cap space, the Philadelphia Eagles tried to look for a willing trade partner for backup quarterback Chase Daniel during the offseason, but a deal never materialized. When the Eagles signed Nick Foles to a two-year contract to back up Carson Wentz, fans probably knew what was going to happen next.

Hours after Foles joined the team, the Eagles officially announced that they have decided to part ways with the veteran quarterback a year after they signed him to a three-year, $21-million deal.

"Chase's professionalism and intelligence were valuable assets to our quarterback room. His veteran leadership was incredibly helpful in Carson [Wentz's] development as a rookie, and his familiarity with Coach [Doug] Pederson's offense was instrumental in installing our system last season," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said in a statement.

"After a healthy discussion with Chase, we both felt like it was best to move forward in a different direction as circumstances have changed since he originally signed. We greatly appreciate Chase's time here and wish him well as he continues his football career," he continued.

In an interview with Philadelphia's 94 WIP, Daniel said he asked the team to release him and the decision was mutual. He also noted that he could be a starting quarterback in the National Football League (NFL).

Well, he has a lot of convincing to do because he has only started twice in his career. But quarterbacks are getting paid a lot of money this offseason (see Mike Glennon), so perhaps Daniel can sign a good deal with a quarterback-needy team.

Daniel was supposed to fight for the starting job last season, but the Eagles decided to give the role to Wentz. Obviously, he wasn't thrilled with the team's decision.

Unlike Daniel, Foles signed his contract knowing he's going to backup Wentz, so that shouldn't be an issue.
