Phoenix Suns Looking to Include Tyson Chandler in Potential Deal for Eric Bledsoe
The Phoenix Suns already know that they will have a difficult time getting equal value back if they trade disgruntled guard Eric Bledsoe, but it seems that they are also looking for a way to dump some salary in the same deal.
According to the New York Times' Marc Stein, the Suns are exploring the possibility of packaging center Tyson Chandler together with Bledsoe in a potential trade.
Well, that should complicate things.
Chandler is owed around $26.5 million over the next two seasons, and while that's not much in today's National Basketball Association (NBA), teams just don't want to absorb unwanted salary unless the Suns add more assets to spice up the deal. Bledsoe is also under contract for the next two years and he's slated to earn $29.5 million.
That should limit their potential trade partners. Unless a third team is brought in to help facilitate the deal, of course.
"The idea of adding Chandler to the deal is intriguing, because it could change the whole structure of the trade," CBS Sports' Colin Ward-Henninger explained.
"Because Bledsoe's contract is manageable for most teams at $14.5 million this season and $15 million next season, a traditional two-team trade would generally work perfectly. But now that the Suns could involve Chandler and the remaining two years and $26.5 million on his contract, that would pretty much exclude any contender from being able or willing to complete the deal," he continued.
According to Bleacher Report, only three teams have enough salary cap space to pull off a deal involving both Bledsoe and Chandler.
The Suns are going to have their work cut out for them if they put Bledsoe and Chandler together in a package, but it never hurts to try.
Aside from those two, the Suns will likely look for a way to move Jared Dudley as well at some point this season and the Minnesota Timberwolves seem to have shown some interest in the veteran forward.
