'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' Release Date, Plot, News: New Promo Posters Highlight Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow

"Pirates of the Caribbean" is set to return this summer for its fifth installment, "Dead Men Tell No Tales." Ahead of its release, Disney has unveiled three new posters featuring old and new cast members, with Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow at the center.

In one of the promotional posters, Depp is joined by new cast members Brenton Thwaites and Kaya Scodelario, who have been tapped to play Henry and Carina Smyth, respectively.

Based on its official synopsis, the upcoming film again centers on Sparrow as he deals with the deadly ghost sailors led by Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), who escaped the Devil's Triangle to kill all pirates at sea, particularly Sparrow. In the film, his only hope of survival lies in the Trident of Poseidon. However, this means he must forge an alliance with the beautiful astronomer Carina and the headstrong sailor in the Royal Navy, Henry.

"At the helm of the Dying Gull, his pitiful small and shabby ship, Captain Jack seeks not only to reverse his recent spate of ill fortune, but to save his very life from the most formidable and malicious foe he has never faced," reads part of the synopsis.

Aside from Depp, Thwaites and Scodelario, other cast members include Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs, David Wenham as Scarfield, Golshifteth Farahani as Shansa, Stephen Graham as Scrum and Geoffrey Rush as Captain Hector Barbossa.

Directed by Espen Sandberg and Joachim Ronning, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is set to hit theaters on May 26. Since Paramount moved the "Baywatch" release back a week, it is going to be an epic showdown between Depp and Dwayne Johnson on Memorial Day weekend. Both movies will premiere between the release dates of "Alien: Covenant" and "Wonder Woman."
