Pittsburgh Steelers NFL Trade and Roster Rumors: Stephon Tuitt Week-to-Week With Bicep Injury
Looks like Stephon Tuitt's biceps injury isn't as serious as initially feared.
The Pittsburgh Steelers thought the defensive lineman might have suffered a season-ending torn bicep in the first quarter of their season opener against the Cleveland Browns, but after the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) test on Monday, it was revealed that it wasn't a tear, and he wouldn't have to undergo surgery.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Tuitt's status is week-to-week with a biceps injury.
The Steelers can now breathe a sigh of relief because Tuitt just signed a five-year, $61-million extension last Saturday. It would have been a huge blow for Pittsburgh if they lose him a day after he signed a long-term deal.
The team still hasn't released an official statement, but his teammates have heard the news and they are glad the injury wasn't serious.
"I'm not going to get into the specifics of it. But we're definitely breathing a sigh of relief," Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward said on Monday, via PennLive.com.
"It's not great news, but it's good news for us knowing that he can be back any week. So, we're thankful for that," teammate Tyson Alualu stated.
Alualu stepped up after Tuitt got hurt and he should continue to see a lot of action while Tuitt recuperates. L.T. Walton should get some playing time as well as Alualu's backup.
The Steelers have some big shoes to fill with Tuitt on the sidelines, but Heyward thinks they have the depth to get the job done.
"Whether it's L.T. Walton or Tyson Alualu, I thought they both did an extremely good job of not only stepping in but also making plays for us," Heyward said, according to PennLive.com.
Tuitt has recorded 108 tackles and 11.5 sacks in three seasons with the Steelers, and he added a tackle to his tally during last Sunday's game against the Browns.
