"Planet of the Apes: The Last Frontier" is coming to North America and Europe on Nov. 21 on the PlayStation 4 (PS4). The game has also been announced for the Xbox One and PC although there is no word yet when it will land on these platforms.
Announced last year by Andy Serkis, who is part of the voice cast in the film and in the game and is the founder of The Imaginarium involved in the production, "Planet of the Apes: The Last Frontier" takes place between latest films in the franchise namely "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and "War for the Planet of the Apes" released early this year.
On its official website, the game is described as a "cinematic adventure game of conquest, betrayal, and survival" and will feature a new set of characters that players will meet in the North American Rocky Mountains.
The official description for "Planet of the Apes: The Last Frontier" reads:
Explore your own morals and ethics as you drive the fortunes of an ape troop and band of human survivors. Your decisions will have real consequences as these two worlds collide amidst a stunning backdrop.
Are You Ready to Choose?
In "Planet of the Apes: The Last Frontier," the fate of the players lies in the decisions they make along the way including the conversations they take part in. In fact, the PS4 version will come with PlayLink support that will allow up to four players to impact the game through their smartphones.
As Serkis teased of the game via The Sixth Axis:
Our aim is to bring new depth to choice-based adventure and offer that to our audience as an immersive, cinematic experience. I'm proud to say that "Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier" does just that, combining the merits of both premier performance capture and next-generation story-telling.
In this light, "Planet of the Apes: The Last Frontier" will have multiple endings and will take two to three hours to complete.
