'Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2' Multiplayer Beta: Now Live for Xbox One and PS4
"Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2's" release date slowly inches near but is still more than a month away. For those who can't wait to get a taste of the action, Popcap and Electronic Arts have recently opened a public multiplayer beta.
The "Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2" multiplayer beta started on Thursday, Jan. 14 and will end on Monday, Jan. 18, so there's still time to jump into the battleground. Although the beta requires no pre-order, Xbox One players need to have an Xbox Live Gold membership to go online and play.
The beta will provide participants with six characters to choose from. These are as follows:

- Kernel Corn - A primary assault class equipped with dual cob busters and a high rate of fire
- Rose - An extremely powerful sorceress with a penchant for turning zombies into goats
- Citron - An orange from the future who travels through time for bounty
- Imp & Z-Mech - The smallest and most agile of the zombies that turns into a Z-Mech robo of mass destruction with missiles
- Super Brainz - A zombie superhero
- Captain Deadbeard - A pirate captain with a trick weapon up his sleeve
The beta will also provide players with select access to the Backyard Battleground, a hub world with menu functions. The scaled-down Backyard Battleground version will give players access to the Quest Board, Stats Room, and Flag of Power mode.
The Quest Board lists current challenges that will reward players and increase their XP multiplier once completed.
The Stats Room displays a player's stats and achievements. It also features a sticker book that gives players an overview of all the characters and accessories they've unlocked in the game.
Flag of Power mode is inspired by The King of the Hill. In this mode, players must do everything they can to prevent an enemy from lowering their flag.
In addition to the Backyard Battleground, the multiplayer beta also grants access to two 24-player game modes, Herbal Assault and Gardens & Graveyards, and two maps, Moon Base Z and Seeds of Time.
New modes and maps will be rotated daily as well. These include:

- Z-Tech Factory
- Frosty Creek
"Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 2" arrives on Feb. 23 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Xbox One and PC players, however, can take advantage of an early access and play the game five days ahead of everyone else starting Feb. 18 through an EA/Origin Access membership.
