'PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' Gameplay News: Creator Says 'No' to Sequel; Opts for 'Games as a Service' Approach

The early success of "PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds" is undeniable. However, its creator has already shut down possibilities of a sequel.

As its title hints, the game was primarily created by Brendan Greene, who is also known as PlayerUnknown. It is still on Steam's Early Access platform but has already conquered the PC gaming world as it garnered the highest number of concurrent players of all time.

However, when Greene recently spoke to IGN and was asked about creating a sequel for it, the game creator's answer was: "No." Even so, it might be premature to close all the doors on the possibility of seeing one in the years to come.

As of now, Greene explained what they hoped to do with the game in the near future as he said: "We're building this game as a service. We'll still have the boxed copy that you buy ... we still want to polish and refine. Add more maps, add more assets, and continually refine the gameplay and optimise as we go forward."

Meanwhile, Greene also commented on how he foresees the game's release on Xbox. When the game creator was asked if he saw the Xbox One as a competitive platform for the game, he replied: "I don't know, we'll see. Like with our PC version, we want to see if the community will drive the competitive end."

Later on in the interview, IGN also spoke with Greene about his prospects for the future of "PUBG," where he said: "I always thought it would make a great eSport."

On the other hand, Greene was personally excited about bringing the game to the Xbox as he told IGN that with the games he created before, he kept getting asked if his projects could be played on the Xbox.

"Xbox is synonymous with gaming," Greene said. He added: "Having it on one of the platforms that is considered to be 'gaming' is just awesome."

Greene also confirmed that once the Xbox One port of "PUBG" is ready, players can expect to find a "boxed copy" of the game aside from the digital version.

Later this year, without a specific date yet, "PUBG" will be launched on Xbox Game Preview.
