PlayStation Network Accounts Reset After 'Irregular Activity' on Servers

The PlayStation Network is having some of their accounts reset because there has been some "irregular activity" on the server, Sony says, concerning some of the emails the company was getting from users.

"The Sony Entertainment Network team routinely monitors for any irregular activity, and if such activity is detected, we may sometimes reset passwords of affected accounts to protect consumers and their account information. Your account password was recently reset as part of this process," the email sent out to reset users reads.

Sony has not revealed what this "irregular activity" is and if there was a hack or major problem. Polygon further investigated the story, and received an email similar to the ones sent out to Sony customers with some more information.

"We encourage you to create a complex unique password that you have not used before or isn't the same password as those associated with other online services. As always, we also encourage you to keep a close eye on your account for any unusual activity including emails about transactions you did not perform. Please click here if you need help in changing your password, or to contact us for additional assistance," the email read.

It continued, "Also, remember that Sony will never ask you for your password or any personal or account information in an email. Please use caution if you receive any emails or phone calls from anyone asking for personal information or directing you to a website where you are asked to provide personal information."

Back in 2011 the PSN was severely hacked and thousands of people's information was leaked online as accounts were reset and suspended.

Yesterday Sony announced that the PS4 has captured over 6.5 million shares since its launch.

"There have been more than 6.5 MILLION shares captured from the PS4. That's pretty amazing! Are you liking the share button? #4ThePlayers," PlayStation Europe Tweeted.

The share button lets gamers record videos and screenshots of their gameplay and upload them to Facebook, Twitter, or Livestream.

Sony has sold over 2.1 million PlayStation 4's since the console launched on Nov. 15.
