PlayStation Plus October 2017 List: Sony Reveals Free Games; PS4 Players Get 'Metal Gear Solid V'
This week, Sony revealed the October 2017 list of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers. PS4 players were also given the chance to access "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" among other titles.
"Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" is an action-adventure video game released in 2015 that was designed by acclaimed developer Hideo Kojima. The events in "The Phantom Pain" occur in 1984 or nine years after the story told in its predecessor "Ground Zeroes."
The game is played from a third-person perspective and in an open world environment. It also features familiar gameplay elements shown in "Ground Zeroes." Ironically, the game challenges players to advance while avoiding bloody ways of killing enemies, thus the game offers non-lethal weapons such as tranquilizers to use against their adversaries.
"The Phantom Pain" gathered nearly perfect ratings and highly positive reviews from various gaming news outlets, critics, and players where some have even referred to the title as the "best" and "greatest" "Metal Gear" and stealth game ever released at the time.
In Metacritic, "The Phantom Pain" for PS4 got an average of 93/100 while various publications such as Famitsu, Gamespot, IGN, The Guardian, Time gave it a perfect score.
Another title that can be accessed for free by PS Plus members with PS4 consoles is the "Amnesia: Collection" which is made up of the games "Amnesia: The Dark Descent" and "A Machine for Pigs."
PS4 owners can also cross-buy the games "Hue" and the shoot-em-up 3D title "Sky Force Anniversary" that are both available on PS Vita as well. The latter can also be accessed on the PS3.
PS3 players have exclusive free access to the video game simulations "Hustle Kings" and "Monster Jam Battlegrounds." "Hustle Kings" lets players experience pool in a digital setup while the latter features the action-packed competition of monster trucks.
"Monster Jam Battlegrounds" comes with 23 vehicles that can be used in game modes such as Racing and Freestyle. The game also offers 45 arenas that vary from stadiums to outdoor arenas such as mountainside obstacles and jungles.
