'Pokémon GO' 0.57 APK Reveals New Unannounced Effects and Items; Johto Region Pokémon Debuts
After a long wait, "Pokémon GO" players were treated to the grand news that Generation 2 Pokémon are finally coming to the game. Niantic officially made the announcement on Feb. 15.
According to their website, more than 80 Pokémon are going to be available for players to catch later this week. The announcement did not make the date clear; regardless, players are still highly anticipating the update.
The new Generation 2 Pokémon all come from the Johto region, made famous by the "Pokémon Gold" and "Pokémon Silver" video games. But catching them all in the wild will not be the only option. Players can also evolve existing Kanto region Pokémon into their Johto counterparts, if they have any. Evolution items will also be given away at PokéStops.
The update will also bring a new gameplay feature to "Pokémon GO." Pokémon will not have new ways of reacting when trainers try to catch them out in the wild. To aide players with this, a new item carousel will be available, which will let trainers choose Berries and Poké Balls on the encounter screen. This saves the player both the time and hassle of having to go to their inventory.
Apart from that, new Berries are also going to be added. These two Berries, the Nanab Berries and Pinap Berries, can be obtained at Poké Stops. The Berries have different functions when fed to a Pokémon. The Nanab Berry will slow down a Pokémon's movement, which is perfect for Pokémon that are hard to catch because they will not be able to get away as quickly as they used to. On the other hand, the Pinap Berry will double the amount of Candy players receive when a Pokémon is caught.
But it seems like Niantic is not ready to spill all the details about the new update just yet. SlashGear has uncovered a few things from the 0.57 APK. Mining the APK has brought to light the words "shiny" and "sparkly," which are effects within the game. This could mean that there are Pokémon with these types of colors. There is also mention of a critical catch, which comes into play when trainers throw a Poké Ball while catching a wild one. There are also some new evolution items that came with the code.
