'Pokémon GO' Evolution Guide: How to Get Generation 2 Evolution Variants
Niantic Labs' augmented reality (AR) mobile game "Pokémon GO" has almost met a dismal decline due to impatient players who can't wait for the Pokémon from Johto region. Fortunately, it's much-awaited introduction has renewed interest in the game, and with new Pokémon comes more evolutions that players will have to achieve.
There are Kanto region Pokémon that have their respective evolved forms in generation 2. While some only require a number of candies, others would need special items in order to bring forth the transformation.
As far as candy evolutions are concerned, the Pokémon that need only such method are Crobat, Espeon, Umbreon, Hitmontop and Blissey. While Golbat simply needs 100 candies to become Crobat and Chansey needs 50 to evolve into Blissey, the others have special requirements that must be fulfilled.
While it is known that Eevee needs 25 candies and a specific nickname to evolve it into its first three variants, the same is true with Espeon and Umbreon, wherein Eevee needs to be named as Sakura and Tamao, respectively.
As for Tyrogue, which depends on hidden Individual Values (IVs), its highest IVs should be HP to evolve into Hitmontop, Attack to evolve into Hitmonlee, and Defense to evolve into Hitmonchan. To calculate its IVs, one can try IV checkers like this one here.
The dawning of generation 2 has also given rise to evolution via special items. The Pokémon that require such are the following: King's Rock for Politoed, Slowking; Sun Stone for Bellossom, Sunflora; Up-Grade for Porygon2; Dragon Scale for Kingdra; Metal Coat for Scizor; and Steelix.
As far as obtaining these items, they can be acquired through PokéStops, although the drop rate is dismally low. In order to increase the odds, one can try to get a seven-day daily bonus streak, but ultimately it depends on luck.
For those who wish to complete their Pokédex, these methods are important to know. Who knows, generation 3 could be arriving sometime by next year, or even earlier depending on the demand.
