'Pokémon Go' Guide to Tyrogue Evolution

With the introduction of Pokémon Go Gen 2, gamers are suddenly thrown off balance with the changes in dynamics among the Hitmon species. Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee and Hitmontop now share a new base-form – Tyrogue.

With the three Pokémon now sprouting from one base-form, the immediate question for players is how the Tyrogue evolution works. According to iMore, the technique is simple. Tyrogue will evolve to Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee or Hitmontop depending on three aspects – attack, defense and HP individual values. If players want a young Tyrogue to become Hitmonlee, its highest IV must be attack. To become Hitmonchan, the highest IV should be defense. On the other hand, a Hitmontop evolution is made possible if Tyrogue's highest stat is the HP.

Identifying Tyrogue's IVs is also easy. Players only need the Pokémon to be appraised. The Team Leader will pop up on the screen and reveal its strongest stat. In the rare event that the leader points out that the IVs are equal, Pokémon Go Informer explains that two or three equal IVs means a random evolution. For example, a Tyrogue with equal attack and defense IVs may evolve into either a Hitmonlee or a Hitmonchan. Likewise, having equal stats on defense and HP gives a 50 percent chance of getting Hitmonchan and another 50 percent chance of Hitmontop.

Previously, Niantic announced that more than 80 new Gen 2 Pokémon would be rolled out all at once. This has reportedly been Pokémon GO's biggest update since its launch in July 2016. CEO John Hanke said in an interview with Forbes that the team at Niantic has been and will continue to work hard to upgrade the game.

"Pokémon GO is a live experience which we'll be continuing to support and evolve in new and interesting ways for years to come with new gameplay features, in-game and live events, more Pokémon to discover and much more," Hanke said.
