'Pokémon Go' Holiday Event Brings New Pokémon and Gifts

"Pokémon Go" is having its second holiday event, and once again, the mobile game is giving away gifts and bonuses to trainers everywhere. A batch of new Pokémon from the Hoenn region is also making its way over, as well.

As Niantic showed in the teaser art that went up with their latest news update on Thursday, Dec. 21, most of the new Pokémon will be the water and ice variety as fitting the winter season. Some of the rarer species from "Pokémon Ruby" and "Pokémon Sapphire" have made their way over to the mobile game as well — even the Legendary Pokémon Kyogre.

Some of the new Pokémon that Niantic revealed in their holiday event teaser include Sharpedo, Snorunt and Luvdisc. Milotic, one of the highlight Pokémon for the Pokémon Show mechanics introduced in that generation, makes an appearance as well.

Just like the earlier "Pokémon Go" Halloween event, a Pikachu wearing a hat to celebrate the season is making an appearance, too. This time, it's the return of Santa hat Pikachu as players have a new chance to add the Pokémon to their collection.

There's also a chance that Delibird, a rare Pokémon that is one of the few left out of "Pokémon Go" from the second generation, will finally reveal itself, according to Polygon.

Players also should not miss out on this rare chance to collect special boxes from the in-game shop, which now offers a few new bundles starting Thursday. From Dec. 21 until Christmas Day, Dec. 25, these special kits contain items like Super Incubators, Lure Modules, and Star Pieces, a new item that earns bonus Stardust for half an hour when it is used.

New items will be swapped in from late Dec. 25 until Jan. 4, 2018, which will contain Premium Raid Passes, plus more Super Incubators and Star Pieces.
