'Pokémon Go' Latest News: Game's Halloween 2017 Event Is Currently Ongoing; Gen 3 Pokemon Released
Halloween is here, and "Pokémon GO" is celebrating with new spooky pets. Ghost-type Pokémon from the Hoenn region came over for their debut in Niantic's mobile game last Friday, Oct. 20, with more Gen 3 Pokémon to follow.
Niantic made the announcement via a news update last Thursday, Oct. 19, confirming earlier speculation and leaks that Pokémon from the fan-favorite "Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire" series are making their way to the mobile game in time for Halloween.
Celebrations started last Friday at 3 p.m. EDT, and will run up until Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. EDT. During this time, a special Pikachu wearing a Halloween themed costume will be making the rounds. Trainers can also dress up for the occasion as well, using a special item called Mimikyu's Disguise Hat.
During these dates, Ghost-type Pokémon such as Ghastly, Cubone, Misdreavus, Houndour will be haunting the virtual streets and corners of the augmented reality game. They will be joined by the first Gen 3 Pokémon to make it to Niantic's mobile game: Sableye, Banette and Duskull will be a common sight before the weekend, as Gamespot notes.
Players who are active until Nov. 2 gets to earn special treats as well. Extra Candy rewards are being given out for catching, hatching or transferring Pokémon, with trainers getting double the rewards.
During the event, the in-game shop will also feature limited edition boxes that hold items like Raid Passes and Super Incubators. Buddy Pokémon that are out and about during this season of trick or treats will also find twice the usual amount of Candy, too.
As for the rest of the Hoenn-based Pokémon from the "Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire" series, they will be appearing one by one starting from as early as December. Earlier teardowns of the latest "Pokémon GO" update revealed sound files and entries for all the Gen 3 Pokémon, even the legendary ones, so it's just a matter of time until they make their "Pokémon GO" debut.
