'Pokémon GO' News: Events, Trading and PVP Features Will Be 'Done Soon'

"Pokémon GO" creator Niantic Labs is not resting on its laurels despite the title's success and in fact, has a lot of exciting things cooked up for its sweeping success of an augmented reality game.

Niantic CEO John Hanke has confirmed in an interview with Waypoint that the player-versus-player battles and trading features he teased in the past are almost ready for roll out.

"It's going to be done soon," the Niantic boss said of the highly anticipated "Pokémon GO" features. Hanke admitted that it took "a bit longer to get the rest of the features up," but for good reasons.

He explained that the buggy servers and the nonstop bug fixing early in the launch of "Pokémon GO" last year was a chief reason that they had to hold off work on the said features.

Niantic has earned some flak from gamers due to the lingering glitches and server issues of the game. Many would have preferred that everything was spick and span before "Pokémon GO" is let out in the wild, but for Hanke, it was "the right thing to do" to release the game even though not every feature is ready.

However, it looks like fans will finally get to see these coveted features this year. Additionally, Niantic is looking to increase the events in "Pokémon GO," which help in maintaining the interest of gamers and the game's popularity.

"My heart is really with events, and that's something I want us to solve in 2017. It's complicated, though, to do them at the scale that Pokemon GO demands," he explained.

These events are expected to finally pave the way for the entrance of ultrarare Pokemon like Mewtwo and the legendary birds that serve as the symbol of the three teams in "Pokemon GO."

With regard to the things that fans should not expect in the game anytime soon, Hanke emphasized that they won't be bringing back the original tracker.

The Niantic executive believes that it will be much better to just make the world "richer" with "more ways to interact with new kinds of things in the world."
