The Pokémon Buddy System was rolled out in the newest update from "Pokémon Go" creator, Niantic Labs, this week. With this, players can choose any Pokémon they have captured to stand alongside their avatar in the game.
'Pokémon Go' Buddy System Explained
Just a few weeks ago, Niantic Labs released the Pokémon Appraisal feature in "Pokémon Go." They recently wrote in a release that their newest update will contain a new feature called Buddy Pokémon. This feature will allow "Pokémon Go" players to choose their favorite Pokémon to become their in-game avatar's companion in the app.

Aside from that, there will be in-game rewards from the chosen Pokémon as well. Furthermore, "Pokémon Go" players will also be rewarded with Pokémon Candy for walking together with their companion. Players will also have the freedom to choose another Pokémon in their collection to become their buddy at any time.
'Pokémon Go' Buddy System Surprising Feature
While Niantic has explained how the Buddy System works in "Pokémon Go", there is another surprising feature that the development team did not mention. It was discovered that once a "Pokémon Go" trainer has walked 10 km with a Pikachu as their Pokémon Buddy, the creature will perch on the avatar's shoulder, BGR reported. Those who are familiar with the animated series will know that this is how Pikachu spends most of his time when traveling with Ash.
Reddit researchers at The Silph Road were the ones who discovered this Easter Egg. It is not yet known whether other Pokémon will do the same or other surprising features.
How to Earn More Candy in 'Pokémon Go'
Pokémon Candy is very important in "Pokémon Go" because it can be used to power up and/or level up Pokémon to be stronger. These items can be acquired by catching new Pokémon, but there is a new way to earn more, thanks to the Pokémon Buddy System.
According to Polygon, the new update will include a new feature that will indicate how many kilometers "Pokémon Go" players will have to walk with their Pokémon Buddy to collect Candy. It goes without saying that the chosen Pokémon Buddy will evolve faster with the trainer by its side because players can collect specific Candy for that Pokémon.
The newest "Pokémon Go" update that contains the Pokémon Buddy System is currently rolling out to iOS and Android.
