'Pokémon GO' Problems, Issues: Tips on How to Deal With Gen 2-Related Freezing Glitch

Unfortunately, Generation 2 Pokémon came with a bug that freezes the "Pokémon GO" app. While developer Niantic Labs has yet to resolve the issue, reports share several ways on how to deal with the glitch.

Last month, Niantic Labs released a major update for "Pokémon GO" where up to 80 additional monsters from the Johto region were added to the roster of the hit mobile app.

Aside from that, developers also added new Berries that provide more ways to capture Pokémon, namely the Nanab and Pinap berries. There are also new Evolution Stones and other items that can be found in PokéStops to aid in Gen 2 evolves.

Forbes pointed out that with an update as large as the February patch, it is understandable that some glitches might have arrived with it.

According to reports, after the Gen 2 update went live, it has been common for the game to freeze into a blue screen when trying to open the app. It is also suggested that the bug might manifest in other ways, like when it suddenly crashes the app while someone is playing.

BGR shared that when trainers come across a freezing screen while the app is loading, they are advised to just wait for the loading bar to be completely full. Trainers will then have to trigger the app switcher. For iPhones and iPads, this can be done by double pressing the physical Home button. Meanwhile, Android devices usually have a dedicated on-screen key to bring up the list of recently used apps. Trainers will then just have to select the "Pokémon GO" app again.

It was also mentioned that this method requires patience since it might take several tries before the map reflects the game's elements such as PokéStops, Gyms and monsters. So a blank map can be expected at first.

The same BGR report said that this method has been proven to work. It also advised players that uninstalling and re-installing the app will not help. Logging out and going back in to the game does not resolve the issue as well, so some players suggest that a permanent fix through another game patch might be in order.
