'Pokémon Go' Rumors: Live Events May Finally Take Place This Year, Will Legendary Pokémon Follow?
Niantic CEO John Hanke recently reiterated his interest in holding live events for 'Pokémon Go'
"Pokémon Go" players have been trying to find substantial clues pointing to the potential arrival of Legendary Pokémon for months, and thus far, the game's developers have yet to indicate anything official. However, that may finally change at some point this year.
During a recent interview with Vice's Waypoint, Niantic CEO John Hanke hinted at some of the upcoming features that are expected to make their way to the augmented reality game in the future.
Interestingly enough, among the things that Hanke talked about during the interview were live events.
Hanke pointed to the "user-created" events that have already taken place and commented on how unprecedented they were.
Later on, Hanke then stated that his heart is "really with events" and that those were things they want to attempt to figure out for this year.
This is far from the first time Hanke has expressed interest in holding events for "Pokémon Go."
When Hanke stopped by the "Recode Decode" podcast last year, he also stated his desire to host events for the game, even hinting that they "probably will" do that.
So, what does all this have to do with the Legendary Pokémon?
For months now, the long-held belief by players is that the Legendary Pokémon won't just suddenly be added to the game like the other not-quite-as-Legendary creatures, and that they may instead be introduced via special events.
An earlier article from Eurogamer even pointed out how the folks over at Niantic possess significant amounts of experience when it comes to hosting events for their other game, "Ingress," and how those yielded special rewards.
At the very least, that's a blueprint that Niantic can follow again for "Pokémon Go."
Nothing is set in stone at this point, however, and no date for any kind of official event has been set just yet as well.
Still, whenever the developers finally do set a special event for "Pokémon Go," many players will likely be paying attention and hoping that the Legendary Pokémon will finally appear then.
