'Pokémon Go' Rumors: Will Region-Specific Pokémon Ever Be Made Widely Available?

Recent comments from Niantic CEO John Hanke seem to hint that region-specific Pokémon could migrate someday

"Pokémon Go" currently features quite the robust Pokémon population, owing in large part to some recent updates. But even with all these creatures present, there are still some who have remained inaccessible to many players.

The so-called region-specific Pokémon are - as their moniker suggests - easily accessible only in certain parts of the world. This means many players will have to go there if they want to add these creatures to their collections.

Unsurprisingly, not all players are very fond of that, especially since the region locks may be the only things keeping some trainers from collecting all the currently available Pokémon .

It's not really clear if those region locks will ever be lifted, but for those players hoping that they will be, well, some recent comments from Niantic CEO John Hanke could give them some hope.

During a recent interview with Wired Germany, Hanke touched on numerous topics, but there's one comment that will stand out to those seeking the region-specific Pokémon.

According to a translation provided by Pokémon Go Hub, Hanke points out in the interview that some Pokémon can only be found on certain continents. He then adds that perhaps there may be a migration in the future.

Now, what's difficult to discern is if Hanke made the migration remark in jest or if it's a not-so-subtle teaser of what he and the other developers have in mind for "Pokémon Go."

Mic.com also reached out recently to Niantic in search of more clarity regarding this matter, but thus far at least, no new details have been provided.

One more thing, for players hoping that trading will eventually provide a workaround for this region-specific issue, it doesn't look like that is what the folks over at Niantic have in mind.

Speaking recently to Polygon, senior product manager for Niantic Tatsuo Nomura shared that the trading feature being developed is not really meant to resolve that region-specific issue, or at least not in the way some players may have hoped as they will still need to know people in certain places, meet up with them in person and then execute a trade if they are looking to obtain those specific creatures via trading.

Unless those region-locked Pokémon really will be migrating soon, many "Pokémon Go" players may still find that their collections will continue to lack some notable creatures.
